Course Description

Are you ready to revolutionize the way you approach construction projects? Step into the future of construction with our 10-week Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Training Course. This essential program is designed to introduce you to the key applications and workflows that are revolutionizing the industry such as Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Navisworks Manage and Procore.

Our expert-led training will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge needed to excel in the modern construction environment. Whether you're a seasoned professional or new to the field, this course will empower you to lead your projects with greater precision and innovation.

Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) plays such an important role in today’s construction. Virtually building projects as a Pre-Con activity allows Contractors to identify constructability issues from the design phase, coordinate the MEP/FP trades and assist in logistics planning.

The students will explore the processes and workflows associated with Virtual Design & Construction that includes building Revit Construction Models, building Navisworks Models with Clash Reports.

What You Will Learn (Learning Outcomes):

  1. Demonstrate the Basic Revit Tools: Demonstrate the ability to use Revit tools that contractors utilize on a regular basis to manage projects
  2. Design Building Models in Revit: Gain the skills necessary to design building models in Revit.
  3. Coordinate MEP Trades: Understand how to effectively coordinate MEP trades using Revit.
  4. Navigate Navisworks Manage: Understand he basic functions of Navisworks Manage.
  5. Integrate Revit and Navisworks: Demonstrate how to use a Revit model to create a Navisworks model.
  6. Utilize the Clash Detective Tool: Demonstrate how to use Navisworks Manage’s Clash Detective Tool for identifying clashes within models during Pre-Con activities.
  7. Explore Procore's VDC Tools: Understand the basics of Procore’s VDC tools and their applications.

Course modality and instructor

The course is primarily set up as 10 modules delivered over 10 weeks. The weekly class meetings are virtual, live and synchronous; therefore, you can expect to interact with the professor and fellow students. This course is taught by Mr. William Cameron who has over 20 years of experience in large scale commercial and industrial construction.

Student engagement and participation

This course is rigorous and requires attendance, participation and submission of assignments. Please allot time for readings and/or video reviews, and completion of assignments.  Please note that this course does not grant a certificate at the end. See Certificate in Construction Management below for details on pursuing a certificate in Construction Management.  

Course pre-requisite

At a minimum, registrants must have basic skills in Microsoft Excel and Word (such as creating and utilizing a spreadsheet, maneuvering columns and rows). If a refresher is needed on that subject, please review videos on YouTube and/or LinkedIn Learning.

Certificate in Construction Management

Those wishing to obtain a certificate in Construction Management must complete the Fundamentals of Construction Management course, and complete three (3) elective courses in construction management.
